Movie Review – Snow White and the Huntsman

I went to see Snow White and the Huntsman Sunday night.

Going into it, I wasn’t sure what to expect.

I knew Kristen Stewart was in it.  Since she is so deeply engraved as Bella in my mind (an awkward girl who needs constant saving by Edward) I wasn’t sure if she was going to be able to pull off this different role.  But I must say I was pleasantly surprised.  She gave a very moving pre-battle speech.

I also knew Charlize Theron was in it because I saw her promoting the movie as a guest on some cooking challenge show on the Food Network where the contestants had to make a dark twisted feast “fit for a queen”.  She was amazing!  Definitely played the wicked witch very well.  Plus I loved most of her gowns.

Chris Hemsworth plays the Huntsman.  What can I say?  I like a scruffy, dirty manly man protector figure, and having an accent doesn’t hurt.

Even though the story line of the movie is so different from Disney’s version, it takes just enough elements from that beloved cartoon that I felt like I was watching the adult version of the Snow White fairy tale.  For example, the dress Snow White is wearing when she’s locked up definitely reminded me of the dress she wore in the cartoon.  Mind you, it didn’t have a yellow skirt, as this was a more dark and twisty movie, but it was the same style and the sleeves were so similar!

If you like the Snow White fairy tale, or tales of kings and queens and knights and battle, go see it.  You won’t be disappointed!
